The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2016 for admissions to medical and engineering degree courses is scheduled to be held on 17 May 2016. The exam has been charted on a weekday to ensure that the dates do not overlap with the upcoming State Assembly Elections which is expected to take place anytime between 1 April 2016 and 15 May 2016. Almost 45,000 students are expected to enroll for the Joint Entrance Examination of the state, for the upcoming year. The WBJEE board may have to engage at least 300 educational institutions throughout the state to conduct the entrance exam for these candidates. However, this may not be possible during the polling process as many of the schools/institutes will be used as polling booths and counting centres. Therefore, WBJEE 2016 is scheduled to be conducted on a single day in the third week of May 2016.
Ordinarily, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) which is conducted in four subjects viz., Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics is held over a period of two days. However, this year, WBJEE 2016 will continue undisturbed on a single day this year. The board has also justified its stand to hold the Joint Entrance Examination of the state on a weekday on the grounds that a number of other entrance examinations including AIPMT, JEE (Advanced) and CLAT have already been pre-scheduled to be held during the weekends in the respective month.
The test for Biological Science will be held during the first session i.e 9 am to 11.30 am. This will be followed by the test for Chemistry and Physics which will be held from 12.45 pm to 2.45 pm and finally the test for Mathematics which will be held from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Therefore, it is going to be an eight-and-a-half-hour ordeal for the candidates who are going to appear for the entrance test. The scheme of the entrance test will also witness some changes this year. The WBJEE Board has decided to cut down the number of questions in various sections as the tests for all the subject papers of WBJEE 2016 have been packed into a single day. The changes in the pattern of the test have been updated on the official website of the board. However, the direct link to it is given below:
