The over 1.75 lakh students who are expected to take the entrance exam, SRMJEEE, will have the flexibility of choosing between 102 paper and pencil centres, or the online mode from 50 locations distributed across the country for the convenience of students. That the university is popular with regions outside the state boundaries of Tamil Nadu is reflecting by the demand distribution: 22.7% from NE region, 15.2 % from the western and eastern regions respectively, and nearly half from the south.
The dates for SRM Entrance Examination (SRMJEEE 2015) for B.Tech as follows:
(i) Paper – Pencil Mode: 10 AM to 12.30 PM, April 26, 2015
(ii) Computer Based Exam: April 19 to April 22, 2015 with two sessions per day.

The admission process for India opened on 3rd November for various programs offered in SRM University. Registration for B.Tech was closed at mid night on 1st April 2015. A record was set with over 2.22 lakh student registrations, who will compete for around 12000 seats in India’s No 1 private university, SRM University (Times of India, 2014), across 4 streams: Medicine and Health Science, Engineering and Technology, Management, and Science and Humanities.
Around 40, 000 students from nearly every state of India and from 50 countries, make SRM University one of the largest centres of higher learning in the country. 12000 students are expected to gain entry in the 2015/16 academic year intake. A closer look at the student mix reflects the diversity of students, both from within India and overseas, a judicious blend of cultures and nationalities, shaping students to become better citizens , but also preparing them for attractive careers in an increasingly global job market.
Admission open for other programs
Admission is still open for various other programs in Science and Humanities, Medicine and Health Sciences, M.Tech and MBA for which online registration can be done. Entrance Examination for M.Tech (SRMGEET) and for MBA (SRMCAT) are scheduled for 31st May 2015. The cut off dates for registration to other programs are 9th May 2015 and 4th June 2015 respectively for UG and PG programs.
SRM University pushed the bar high for a new benchmark last year for entry, setting the minimum pass mark in school final examinations at 70% (for admission to B.Tech), a bold step in the university’s continuous effort for bringing in qualitative changes at all levels. In just a year since introducing the minimum cut off mark policy, purple patches are beginning to appear in areas such as student projects, academic achievement, and research and innovation.
The Chancellor said that “the student is at the centre of every development at the university. The hugely popular Semester Abroad Programme which delights students with an international programme while still an undergraduate student enables around 200 of the brightest minds to go to some of the leading lights in the world, like MIT, Harvard, Carnegie, Cornell , Warwick, RMT and NUS”.
The university continues to remain to be at the top as far as placements are concerned. It achieved a record placement of 5080 students in top notch companies. The trend indicates a progression to a new record, overcoming the challenging economic environment.
A number of scholarships were also announced by SRM University. The flagship Founder’s Scholarship provides for full waiver of tuition fee, hostel fees, book fees, transportation and a monthly stipend of Rs.1000. This scholarship is given to toppers in school finals, SRMJEEE, JEE (Mains), and JEE (Advanced); achievers in sports; candidates belonging to economically challenged community and the minority community; and those who are differently abled. Tuition Fee Waivers from 25% to 100% are available to students based on academic merit, achievement in sports and economic background. Masters students can also apply for Teaching and Research Assistantships
Several Semester Abroad Scholarships for meritorious students pursuing a semester abroad in leading partner universities of SRM like MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Cornell. SRM is one of the few institutions in the country that has tie –ups with foreign institutions for students to study abroad as part of the undergraduate programme.
Last year SRM University awarded Rs.23.0 crore of scholarships to about 2173 students, and facilitated Rs.84.0 crore of bank loans to over 1850 students. “We believe that regardless of one’s financial background, deserving and meritorious students should not be denied the opportunity to pursue higher education. Every year we are putting in extra resources to help students meet their aspirations”, said SRM University Chancellor Dr T. R. Paarivendhar.
