The proposal to consider only JEE Main score, to grant engineering admission, has been deferred by the HRD ministry, headed by Smriti Irani. Now, a separate committee will be composed to look further into the matter, and to decided whether to upgrade the intake procedure or not.
The sub-committee of NIT proposed to remove consideration of class 12 scores because last year the JEE Main rank was delayed due to lack of data. Also, it planned to cut-down seats by 40%, so as to eradicate the issue of the vacant seats. However, the proposed notion was not given an immediate green signal because an NIT director mentioned that the weightage system had helped many increased the female intake in NIT + system.
“Since there was no consensus on the issue, the HRD minister decided to form another committee,” an official said.
The newly formed committee will look into the matter. However, this indicates that, most probably, this year the admission procedure will remain the same as before. That is while preparing the JEE Main rank, 60% weightage will be given to JEE Main score. Whereas, 40% will be given to class 12 score.
Apart from this, both NITs and IITs have been demanding individual, one phase, admission procedure. As soon as the verdict on the matter will be released, we will inform our readers.
