As per the reports, the government has bestowed AICTE with the responsibility to make JEE Main mandatory for all the government and private institutions for granting admissions into B.Tech courses, from the year 2018. The Human Resource Development Ministry (HRDM) is ready to set-up a plan with National Testing Service Institute to conduct JEE Main from 2018. The candidates then will not be required to prepare for particular state engineering entrance examinations.
The official announcement regarding this is expected to be made on February 01. The exam then might be conducted multiple times. “The entrance test will then be conducted twice in a year.” as per an official sources.
Though the institutes will not be able to conduct its own entrance exam. However, they might have the liberty to admit the candidates either on the basis of JEE Main scores or both JEE and class XII marks. As per the media reports, the final decision will be of universities and colleges, whether they wanted to give 40% or 20% weightage to 10+2 examination scores.
When the matter was discussed at the general council meeting, Tamil Nadu objected the notion stating that it should not be forced to change the actual admission system. Ajay Kumar Roy, a member of AICTE council and Director of Indian Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Shibpur, said, “The school board syllabus should be in the same pattern in order to create a uniform level. The syllabus of many state board fails to pace with that of CBSE, the conducting authority of JEE Main 2017”.
Despite all, the admission into IITs will be on the basis of JEE Advanced, which will be conducted by Joint Admission Board (JAB) after JEE Main. Last yea, NEET was revived to bring medical admission, in India, under a single umbrella and seems like the same motto will be applied for engineering admissions soon.
For the year 2017, Joint Entrance Examination (Main) will be held on April 02, 2017, in offline mode and April 08 and 09, 2017, in online mode. Paper I will start from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm, whereas, paper II will commence from 02:00 pm to 05:00 pm.
