JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2015


Eligibility criterion, for an exam, are the minimum requirements which candidates must meet, to be allowed to write the exam. Those who will fail to fulfill these demands, will be forbidden from writing the paper. For each exam criteria varies, as per the need of the course/ college for which the entrance exam is being held. Since, the conducting body determines all the aspects the exam, eligibility is also decided by it. In case of JEE Main, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is responsible to determining all the aspects, and obviously, eligibility criteria is also defined by the Board. Details of JEE Main eligibility criteria, are as below.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria, for JEE Main exam, revolves around age limit and education qualification. The exam is written to secure seat is Technical under-graduation/ higher education courses, like B.Tech and B.Arch. Candidates must be aware with the basics concepts, of these courses which are tough in class XI and XII. Else candidates will find the course exhaustive and disinterested.

Requirements, as prepared by CBSE, to write the exam are:

Age Limit: Every year, CBSE determines a certain upper age limit, all the candidates must be born on or after the specific date. For example to write JEE Main 2015, candidates should be born on or after 1 October 1990. Some reversed categories do enjoy privilege of relaxation, on upper age limit, but it is only upto 5 years.

Education Qualification: First of all, it is necessary that candidates should have studies, their 10+2 with 5 subjects. Out these 5 subjects, Physics and Mathematics should have been core subjects. Also, candidates must have had Biology or Chemistry as optional subject.

Total aggregate of candidate, in qualifying exam should not be less than 50% marks.

Year of Passing: Emphasis is laid on year, in which qualifying exam must have been passed. Candidates who will write 10+2 exam on the year of JEE Main, are eligible to apply. However, candidates who passing qualifying exam, two years prior to the exam year may also apply. Like for writing JEE Main 2015, either candidates should be appearing for 10+2 exam, in 2015, or must have passed it in 2013 or 2014.

This was all, that candidates need to fulfill. However, candidates should also know, that each one of them will be granted three chances to qualify the exam. These chances will be consecutive. Also, no relaxation will be provided on this criteria.
