Another boy from Bhavna Vidyalaya School Panchkula, Aashish Waikar, has grabbed JEE Advanced 2017 AIR 7 position. Son of army doctors had surpassed one of the biggest national engineering exam JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2017. He wants to pursue his further career from IIT Bombay in Computer Science. Apart from studies, he plays the guitar and loves to amidst nature by watching birds of various kinds. A simple boy with his two success key points ‘hard work’ and ‘confidence’ benefited him to be in the top ten JEE Advanced Toppers 2017. Here he talks to Entrance Corner about his preparation strategies, further career, his role model and message to emerging engineering aspirants in the upcoming years. Entrance Corner: Congratulations on your success in JEE Advanced 2017. How are you planning to celebrate your success?
Aashish Waikar: Thank you. I haven’t planned for big success party. I am travelling right now attending felicitation and functions. But I am planning to visit some tourist spots to relax along with family.
Entrance Corner: Tell us about yourself. About your family and school.
Aashish Waikar: I completed my Class X and XII from Bhavan Vidyalaya School Panchkula. My father’s name is Mr. Shrikant Waikar and mother’s name is Mrs. Meenakshi Waikar. They both work as Colonel doctors and eye specialists in Army. There were working in Maharashtra but currently, they are posted in Lucknow.
Entrance Corner: What is your score in JEE Advanced 2017? How was your performance in JEE Main and in which mode did you take the exam?
Aashish Waikar: In JEE Advanced, I scored 329 out of 366. In JEE Main 2017, I scored 318 out of 360 and JEE Main 2017 AIR was 101. I attempted the paper in offline mode.
Entrance Corner: What was your preparation strategy for JEE Advanced?
Aashish Waikar: I studied six to seven hours a day and covered all the topics. I made notes on concepts and formulas for the topics which I usually forget. This helped me to revise them during the last few days of the entrance exam. Proper sleep is important to give the best shot on the D-Day.
Entrance Corner: What was the key factor behind your outstanding performance in the JEE Advanced 2017?
Aashish Waikar: Two success mantras which helped me to bag this position is ‘my hard work’ and ‘confidence’.
Entrance Corner: Did you take any coaching classes? Do you think coaching is necessary to crack JEE Advanced exam?
Aashish Waikar: Yes, I took coaching at Lakshya Institute Chandigarh. From 9:00 am to 2:00 pm the classes were held in a daily basis. Apart from the NCERT questions asked in JEE Advanced 2017, to answer concept based questions, it is necessary to take coaching.
Entrance Corner: What is your preferred IIT and engineering branch?
Aashish Waikar: I want to pursue my further studies from IIT Bombay. I will take the course Computer Science.
Entrance Corner: Did you use social media platform like Facebook while preparing? If not how did you connect with your friends?
Aashish Waikar: No, I did not use Facebook or any other social networking sites while my preparation for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). But I used my parent’s Whatsapp sometimes to get in touch with my teachers and classmates.
Entrance Corner: What are your hobbies and interests?
Aashish Waikar: My hobbies and interests are playing my guitar, listening to music, birdwatching as I get a lot of satisfaction and peace watching the activities of different kinds of birds.
Entrance Corner: Who is your biggest role model in life?
Aashish Waikar: My biggest role model in life is my father. He is an inspiration for me and always motivated me with his words like “Veer tum badhe chalo, Vakt ki pukar hai.”
Entrance Corner: What would be your message for future JEE Advanced aspirants who will be appearing for the entrance exam next year?
Aashish Waikar: I want to advise future JEE aspirants to give their full effort and always follow the instructions mentors/teachers and ask for guidance and help to secure better marks. I am very particular about my sleep. It is necessary to have a good sleep before the examinations.
Entrance Corner: What are your future plans? What do you want to do after engineering?
Aashish Waikar: After pursing my career in the Computer Science field, I would like to get a good job from a well established and reputed company.
