It is a time for celebration because IIT Delhi and IISc have secure position among top 200 Universities, in QS World University Ranking. This is for the first time when, not one, but two Indian Universities have managed to secure position among top 200 Universities of the world.
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Ranking is the most renowned and considered ranking, as the company has been specializing in education and study abroad for years. In the QS World University Rankings 2015, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, secured 147 Rank. Whereas, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, was positioned 179 by the QS.
It is a huge achievement, especially for IISc Bangalore because last year it was nowhere in the QS Worl University Rankings. However, last year IIT-D managed to secure 235 position and this year it has climbed up very well.
The reason for such remarkable success according to K. Gupta, the Director of IIT-D is the institute’s dedication to improving the quality and quantum of research.
“We are dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and innovation and we pay attention to the maintaining the best possible standards in these fields,” – K. Gupta
The reason for the success of IISc, in the words of Anurag Kumar, the Director of IISc is
“The rankings are largely due to our first undergraduate batch graduating this year. This was one of the criteria needed to feature in the global rankings…Our performance has remained high. Other Universities are catching up due to the impetus given to research in their regions. For us to be in the top 50, we need investment and support for our faculty,” – Anurag Kumar
We would also like to congratulate various other institutes which managed to secure an appreciable spot in the QS World Universities Rankings 2015. In all, there are 14 Indian Institutes in the list and most of them are among top 400. This year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, has crawled from 222 to 202. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, has jumped from 321 to 254 and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, has managed to move on to 271 from 300 rank. Also, in Art and Humanities table, Jawaharlal Nehru University has secured 168th position. Whereas, the University of Delhi is at 191th position in this and Social Sciences and Management table.
Apart from this, the top five Universities in the QS World University Rankings 2015 are as given below:
