Q. How do I apply online for GATE 2018?
Ans: Candidates have to register online through GATE online GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), fill the GATE application form, upload necessary documents, pay the required fees and submit the application form. As per the GATE important dates 2018, the application has begun online from August 31, 2017, onwards.
Q. Can I use one e-mail address to fill multiple application forms?
Ans: Candidates can use only one email id to fill one GATE application form.
Q. What do I do, if the power/internet connection failed during the submission of application process?
Ans: In case of any power or internet failure, candidates can access their registration page again later by login in on GOAPS. They can continue to fill GATE application form after that. The information submitted before the access failure will be saved in GOAPS.
Q. How do I pay the application fee for GATE 2018?
Ans: The link to pay GATE 2018 application fees has been activated on August 31, 2017. This year, the exam authority allows only online payment for GATE registration. Candidates can opt to pay through debit card, credit card and net banking. The additional charges such as service charges, processing fees or bank charges have also to be paid by the candidates.
Q. My net banking account has been debited more than once. How do I get the money back?
Ans: In certain cases unaccounted or excess money might be deducted on behalf of GATE 2018. The excess fee is refunded by the authority after a week or two.
Q. Do I have to send the print-out of the application form?
Ans: Candidates must not send the print out of GATE application form to the organising Institute (IIT Guwahati) or any other GATE zonal office after final submission of the online application form of GATE.
Q. When and how will I know the status of my application?
Ans: Candidates can check the status of application form after final submission of the GATE application.
Q. I have missed to take a print-out of my online application at the end of my application process. How will I get access to it?
Ans: Candidates can login using GOAPS enrolment ID and password and take a print-out for their own reference. The print-out must not be sent to IIT Guwahati.

Q. I am currently in my fourth year of engineering. What should I submit as a proof that I am in my final year?
Ans: Candidates who mention that they are yet to complete their course, have to obtain before hand a certificate from the Principal of their institution and upload the same during the online submission of the application.
Q. If I am in the final year of my qualifying degree programme, what certificate do I upload?
Ans: If a candidate is in the final year of the qualifying degree programme, a certificate from the Head of the Department/Institute (in the format specified in GATE application form), must be uploaded.
GATE FAQs 2018 on Admit Card
Q. Where can I get my GATE admit card?
Ans: Admit card can only be downloaded from the GOAPS website from January 5, 2018. Admit card of GATE will not be sent by post or email.
Q. Is GATE 2018 admit card alone sufficient appear for the exam?
Ans: No, the GATE admit card has to be brought to the test centre along with at least one original (not photocopied/scanned copy) and valid (not expired) photo identification, whose details have been entered while filling the application.
Only one of the following photo identifications is permitted:
- Driving license
- PAN card
- Voter ID
- Aadhaar UID
- College ID
- Employee identification card
Candidates will not be permitted to take the exam if the original and valid photo identification is not presented.
Q. Is it necessary to take out a colour printout of GATE admit card?
Ans: Yes. The admit card will be considered valid only if the candidate’s photograph and signature images are correct. To ensure this, candidate must take colour print out of GATE 2018 admit card on an A4 size paper.
Q. What should I do if there are errors in the photograph on my GATE admit card?
Ans: In case of any error in the photograph candidates must mail the details along with the photograph to their zonal centre of GATE 2018. Candidates must ensure all the details are correct.

Q. Is a physical calculator allowed in the GATE examination hall?
Ans: Candidates will not be allowed to carry a physical calculator. IIT Guwahati will provide a virtual calculator for calculation.
Q. How to use GATE 2018 virtual calculator?Will I be provided a facility to practice with the virtual calculator
Ans: IIT Guwahati will provide the facility to practice with the virtual calculator from November 2018. The facility will be made available with GATE 2018 mock test.
Q. What will happen if any one brings the physical calculator or a mobile phone (even in switched off mode) in the examination hall?
Ans: Physical calculators and mobile phones are strictly prohibited at GATE 2018 exam centre. Candidates will not be allowed appear the entrance test.

Q. For how many GATE papers can I apply?
Ans: A candidate can apply for one of the 23 papers listed in GATE 2018.
Candidates are, however, free to choose any paper according to their course preference keeping in mind the GATE eligibility criteria of the institutions in which they are seeking admission.
Q: Will I be provided with any white paper for rough work and calculations during the examination?
Ans: Candidates will be provided a scribble pad that can be used to do the rough work. However, after the exam gets over, candidates have to return the scribble pad to their invigilator.
Q. Am I allowed to leave the examination hall during the GATE 2018 exam?
Ans: Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall under any conditions. Candidates can only leave the examination hall after the entrance test gets over.
Q. Will there be any arrangement at the examination centre for the safe keeping of my personal items such as my mobile phone?
Ans: Arrangements will not be made at the GATE examination centre to keep the belongings of candidates. Candidates must make their arrangements before appearing for the entrance test.

Ans: Mobile phones, physical calculators, wristwatches, or any other electronic items are not allowed inside the GATE examination hall. If a candidate brings any of above mentioned items, they have to be kept outside the examination hall.

Q. How will I be able to check my GATE result 2018?
Ans: Candidates will be able to check their GATE 2018 result by using their GATE enrolment ID and date of birth.
Q. Can I download GATE score card 2018 on the day of declaration of the result?
Ans: Candidates will not be able to download the score card along with the result. For the academic year 2018-19, GATE scorecard will be made available for download from March 20 to May 31, 2018 while the result will be announced on March 17. Candidates are advised to download the score card and take a print out of the same.
Q. How to obtain the GATE score card after the due date?
Ans: To download the score card after May 31 candidates must pay Rs 500 online through GOAPS portal. This scorecard will be available till December 31, 2018.
