IIT Kanpur, the organising authority of JEE Advanced has recently made an announcement about the increase in the number of students eligible for appearing in the second stage of JEE. For the 2018 academic session, 2,24,000 JEE Main qualifiers (including all categories) will be shortlisted to take in JEE Advanced.
Until this year, only the top 2,20,000 students who qualified JEE Main were eligible to sit for JEE Advanced. Now, with an increase in the number of eligible candidates by 4000, more engineering aspirants can fulfill their dream of taking admission in the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) of the country.
At present, a total number of 10,998 seats are available in the 23 IITs. However, the new IITs might plan to increase in the total number of seats by 1000. As the number of students eligible for JEE Advanced 2018 has been increased, the competition among students will be more fierce.
JEE Advanced 2018 will be administered by IIT Kanpur, under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) 2018. JEE Advanced 2018 is scheduled to be held on May 20 in computer-based test mode. The exam consists of two compulsory papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. The duration of each paper is of three hours and it will be held in two sessions.
To appear in JEE Advanced 2018, candidates have to qualify in paper 1 of JEE Main by securing the cutoff marks to be defined by CBSE. Every year, over 12 lakh candidates appear in JEE Main for admission in the 23 IIITs, 31 NITs and 20 GFTIs.
