Punjab Engineering College is now PEC University of Technology

H. E. General (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues, PVSM, VSM, Governor, Punjab and Administrator U T, Chandigarh visited PEC on 4th June, 2009 and Unveiled the Plaque renaming Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University), Chandigarh as PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh. The new name, adopted by the Board of Governors, embodies the new stature of PEC after grant of Deemed University status a few years ago. It also reflects the aspirations as well as the expansion of horizons of PEC in tune with its new status. A live telecast of unveiling ceremony of the plaque was telecasted inside the main auditorium of PEC where a large number of dignitaries, faculty, staff and students were gathered.

The Director, PEC University of Technology, Prof. Manoj Datta, welcomed all the dignitaries, faculty, staff and students at the function that marked the rechristening of Punjab Engineering College as PEC University of Technology. Addressing the audience, the and UT Administrator, General (retd) SF Rodrigues posed a challenge for technocrats and professionals to evolve innovative strategies to enable 300 million people below the poverty line to become part of mainstream and be instruments of change in achieving 9% growth rate. “The approach should not only be academic but must focus on current problems facing the nation and world. You have to find ways and means to unlock the future through systematic and planned strategies,” said Gen Rodrigues while regretting that the existing education system failed to produce good citizens equipped with moral and ethical values.
Gen Rodrigues also launched the renamed website with the press of a button which was received by the audience with a thundering applause.
Padmashree Chander Mohan, Chairman of Board of Governors, PEC University of Technology released the Souvenir of the outgoing batch on the occasion.
