As per the new scheme introduced by MHRD for admission in Engineering Colleges including NITs, IITs, IIITs and other colleges, two major national Engineering Entrance Tests have been scrapped namely – IIT JEE and AIEEE. In their place, JEE Main 2013 and JEE Advanced will be conducted for admission in NITs, IIITs and other colleges and IITs respectively.
Firstly, JEE Main 2013 which has taken the place of AIEEE will be conducted and the top 1.5 lakh rankers of JEE Main will be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2013 subject to the condition that they satisfy the other eligibility condition that they are also the top 20 percentile scorers of respective board exams.
The final merit list of JEE Main 2013 will be generated by giving 40% weightage to the board marks and 60% weightage to the Entrance exam scores. In case, any State wants to give admissions in State University affiliated colleges, separate merit lists will be given to them on demand.
Medium of JEE Main 2013 and JEE Advanced 2013 exams:
Basically the exam will be conducted in English and Hindi and if any state wants to conduct the exam in any regional language, the demand can be placed and the requested language paper will be given.
Minimum academic qualification:
For appearing in JEE Main 2013, the candidate must have a minimum qualification of class XII or its equivalent. The students who are appearing for class XII exam in this year can also appear for JEE 2013.
List of Qualifying Exams for JEE Main 2013:
- Class XII exam conducted by any recognized State/Central Board of Secondary Examination.
- Two-year Pre-University or Intermediate Examination conducted by a recognized University/Board.
- Final Examination of Joint Services Wing’s two year course of National Defence Academy.
- Any Board/Public/University Examinationin foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or India.
- Vocational Examination conducted by HSC.
- The Senior Secondary Examination organized by National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
- AICTE or State Board of Technical Education Diploma.
Improvement in Class XII result of 2012 pass out students:
The students who have passed their XII class in 2012 can improve their score by giving the exams again this year. Bu they have to appear for all the subjects. The students who give exam will have an option for submitting the score of either 2012 or 2013.
The students who submit 2013 improvement scores for JEE Main 2013 will be judged as per the top 20 percentile criteria and the rest will be judged as per the earlier 60% (GEN) and 55% (PD/ST/SC) marks criteria for IITs.
Exam Pattern for (B.E./B.TECH. and B.ARCH) JEE Main 2013:

Negative Marking in JEE Main 2013:
The exam will have objective type questions with four options to choose from. Only one of them will be correct. The candidates who answer wrongly will get a negative credit of ¼ of the marks for that question. If however, the questions are left unmarked for, there will be no deduction of marks.
Syllabus for JEE Main 2013 & JEE Advanced 2013:
The students can find the syllabus for JEE Main 2013 on the official website www.jeemain.edu.in it has been kept same as that of AIEEE syllabus of last year. The detailed syllabus of JEE Advanced 2013 is available on http://jee.iitd.ac.in. Though both of the syllabi are largely the same, the candidates should refer to the above mentioned links for the official syllabi of JEE Advanced and JEE Main.
If any candidate has appeared for AIEEE exam last year, that will be considered an attempt at JEE Main 2013. The total number of attempts at JEE Main 2013 have been limited to three (03) for all the students in consecutive years.
* The candidates who have passed Class XII in 2011 or 2012 or who are appearing in 2013 shall be eligible for JEE Main as per the JEE Main 2013 Eligibility Criteria. All the earlier pass outs and 2014 batch students are not eligible for JEE Main 2013.
JEE Main 2013 Exam Dates:
Date of JEE Main Offline Exam: 7th April, 2013
Online Exam: to be conducted in between 8th of April 2013 to 30th April, 2013.
JEE Advanced 2013 Exam Dates:
Offline Conduction Only: 2nd of June 2013. No exam for JEE Advanced 2013 will be conducted online.
JEE Advanced 2013 Information Centers:
There will no Physical sale of exam forms. The JEE Main 2013 and JEE Advanced 2013 Forms will be filled Online only. The JEE Main 2013 Forms will be made available on the JEE Main official websitewww.jeemain-edu.in 1st November onwards. A number of facilitation centers will be opened in order to help the candidates with the form filling process.
Amanuensis for Physically Challenged Students:
A provision has been made to provide amanuensis to the physically challenged candidates. For this, they have to contact Executive Director, JEE (Main) with the medical certificate issued by the competent authority that too one month prior the exam conduction. The Central Superintendent will provide amanuensis, which will include the students of Class XI of Humanities/Commerce without Mathematics as the subject of study. Such candidates will be given one hour extra for their exam.
Use of Calculator in JEE 2013:
Any kind of Electronic Device like mobile, iPod, Calculator etc is not permitted inside the examination hall of JEE 2013. Also the materials like book, notebook, log table etc should not be brought to the hall.
JEE Main 2013 Age Limit:
The candidates born on or after 1st October, 1988 are eligible for exam. There has been an age relaxation of five years for the candidates of Physically Disabled, ST and SC categories making the date of eligibility - 1st October, 1983.
The date of birth proof will be the University Certificate or Secondary Education Board certificate.
JEE Main 2013 Reservation:
As per the rules of Govt. of India, some candidates of reserved categories will be eligible for the seats reserved for them. The reserved categories will be Non – Creamy Layer OBC (NCL), ST, SC and Persons with Disability (PD).
*JEE Main 2013 Reservation of Seats will be for only those classes and castes which have been mentioned in the respective central lists of Govt. of India.
JEE Main 2013 State Code of Eligibility:
The Code of State from where the candidate has passed his Class XII exam and hails the eligibility for exam from is the state code of eligibility. By the virtue of State Code of Eligibility, one becomes eligible for admission in B. Arch/B. Planning, B. E. / B. Tech. at the institutions / colleges of UT / States.
For the Indian Students who have passed their qualifying exam from any institution abroad, the eligibility will be decided on the basis of the address given in the passport.
