You DO NOT NEED DOMICILE for Jadavpur or Shibpur. I passed out of JU and am confident of the rules. The domicile rules only apply to Government Engineering colleges, and since JU and Shibpur are technically universities, these rules do not apply. JU is a nice, cheap place to study - don't miss an opportunity simply because you were misinformed. However, it is true that if you are out-of-WB, you might need to come to Kolkata or elsewhere in WB to give the entrance exam.

sir, your information may be right but what their website shows .
we are to go according to that being a domicile of other state,we can't go each & every place.
you have mentioned you passed few years back ...........
there may be some changes in admission policies,
it may also be possible that this kind of a domicile criteria was not applicable at your time.

@ Navneesh

Since you have mentioned the website here's what it says ": Candidates desirous of seeking admission to Government Engineering / Technology Colleges, Govt. Medical and Dental Colleges as well as to Private Medical and Dental Colleges, must have been residing in the State of West Bengal continuously at least for last 10 (ten) years as on 31.12.2010 or their parents must be permanent resident of West Bengal having their permanent home address in the State of West Bengal."

As I said - no mention of universities. Jadavpur is a university. So is Shibpur.

Though I cannot confirm this, but I have heard of news that at one point of time, the central government wanted to make the entrance IITJEE or AIEEE, to allow students from all over the country, in exchange for additional funds they giving to JU. The state government didnt agree to scrap WBJEE, so as a compromise lifted the domicile criterion. Ever since, JU has had no domicile.

Believe me, the whole website notice is bullshit - these guys do not know how to state facts properly. I have heard cases of how students were surprised to find that their domicile was not asked for when they went for counselling after the publication of ranks, and got admitted into JU. I passed out in 2008 and no changes have been made - I can bet you anything. I stay outside India, and I went to visit JU last December and I checked it this time again because a cousin of mine based in Delhi wanted to give WBJEE.

I can confirm this news based on my personal experience.
