'Academic quality is not an issue in the IITs'

BANGALORE: Some of the brightest brains in the country get to an IIT campus. They continue to do an amazing job while studying. Many IITians (not all) have struggled for up to four years. In the process, maybe some are not fresh when they come to the industry. Academic quality is not an issue in the IITs; it's a larger issue.

Prof S Sadagopan | Director, IIIT-Bangalore (taught at IIT-Kanpur from 1979 to 1995)

It's a quality of faculty and lack of motivation on their part. Just out of IIT in 1989, I got the best-paying job in ONGC. Today, the faculty gets much less. With so many IITs, lack of infrastructure and quality faculty, IITs no longer produce the best. IITs must focus on out-of-the-box thinking and innovation. They should not produce run-of-the-mill graduates.
