WB: Students, Parents Gherao JEE Board Officials

WEST BENGAL  Students taking action against causing harassment in JEE Counseling


Alleging slow pace of counseling students and their parents yesterday gheraoed West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board officials at Yuba Bharati stadium here causing disruption. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee described the incident as unfortunate.

Police intervened to disperse the agitated students and parents after some of them went on a rampage alleging slow pace of counselling.

The agitated students and their guardians had also gheraoed the WBJEE Board officials who were rescued by the police.

Mamata Banerjee told reporters in Midnapore that the JEE Board officials are to be "blamed" for causing harassment to the students and their parents and assured that appropriate measures should be taken to safeguard the interest of the students.

She asked the WBJEE Board officials to arrange for accommodation for the successful students who had arrived in Kolkata for counseling from far off places.

West Bengal Higher Education minister Bratya Basu said the state government would make the counseling of the WBJEE online from next year.
