GITAM receives approval for B.Arch programme

GITAM University:

GITAM University has received approval from the Council of Architecture (COA) to start a five-year B.Arch programme from this academic year.

GITAM University established a School of Architecture and an expert committee from COA visited the campus recently and appreciated the infrastructure facilities to run this course.

The Council of Architecture (COA) has been constituted by the Central Government under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972.

The Act provides for registration of architects, standards of education, recognised qualifications and standards of practice to be complied with by the practicing architects. The COA is charged with the responsibility to regulate the education and practice of profession throughout India besides maintaining the register of architects.

Meet on NATA

Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam held a review meeting and informed that admission into the programme is based on the rank obtained by a candidate in the National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA).

British Council official visit campus

Director (South India) of British Council Division, British Deputy High Commission, Paul Sellers visited the GITAM campus recently. He assured the university that the British Council would extend its help to the university to enrich the English language skills of the students.

He visited the English Language Lab, which is running the Business English Certificate course for management students. Incidentally GITAM University is the only university in Andhra Pradesh offering the course through the British Council. Mr. Sellers interacted with Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam and faculty. British Council would help the schools and higher education institutions to establish sustainable partnerships with institutions in the UK, he said.

Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU):

Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Vice-Chancellor C.R.Visweswara Rao inaugurated the third Workshop on Communication Skills in the university on Thursday.

The university has been offering the career improving skills to get better placements for the youngsters, he said.

Advising the students to improve communication skills which will help them to elevate to good positions, Mr.ao said the courses introduced in the new varsity have their relative significance with utilising the potential resources of the region. Referring to the grammatical incoherence in writing and spoken abilities, Mr.Rao said the second language requires the know-how and only through a synchronised effort better communication is possible.

G.Rajagopal, Dean, English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, who attended the one-day programme stressed on the teachers' competence in the language classroom to make the students aware of good communication skills.

Simple task based activities like picture response and answering closed questions for information will develop their ability to speak well, said Mr.Rajagopal.

VSU College Development Council Dean T.Sudha, workshop coordinator K.Narasimha Rao and others spoke.
