JoSAA 2017: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2017 has released JoSAA 2017 schedule on June 7. All the candidates seeking admission in NITs, IIITs, IITs and GFTIs must apply for JoSAA 2017. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2017 is the single platform through which admissions will be offered to the candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2017 and JEE Advanced 2017. The first and second round of mock seat allocation result based on candidates choices has been made available on June 23 and 20 respectively. The JoSAA 2017 registration and choice filling has started from June 15. Candidates must register for JoSAA 2017 in online mode by entering their JEE Main 2017 roll number, password and security pin. JEE Advanced candidates must use their JEE Advanced 2017 roll number and password. On completion of JoSAA registration process, candidates have to enter their choices of courses and institutes before June 26. JoSAA 2017 has provided the benefit of two mock seat allocation rounds from June 20 to 23 to make better choices of colleges and courses and understand the seat allotment process. The counselling will be held for candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2017 and seats will be allotted to the participating institutes, which consist of NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs and likewise, counselling of JEE Advanced qualified candidates will also hold by JoSAA 2017 for admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad. What’s news in JoSAA 2017?
- JoSAA 2017 is being conducted in seven rounds whereas last year there was 6 rounds.
- For the academic year 2017-18, JoSAA mock allocation is provided in two rounds for two days whereas last year there was only 1 mock seat allotment.
- Candidates are given 12 day window to fill-in their choices earlier it was a 5 day window.
- The total number of participating institutes of JoSAA 2017 has increased from 93 to 97. 5 new institutes have been added. Now, there are 31 NITs, 23 IIITs, 23 IITs, 20 GFTIs.
Candidates have to register themselves to participate in JoSAA 2017 counselling. Candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced and JEE Main 2017 can participate in JoSAA 2017 counselling. Candidates have to register themselves between June 15 to 26 and fill their preferred choices.
JoSAA 2017 Mock Seat Allocation
JoSAA 2017 has displayed the second round of mock seat allotment on June 23. The first round of mock seat allocation was made available on June 20, 5:00 pm. The mock seat allotment for candidates has been provided to make better choices of colleges/courses and for understanding the seat allotment process. The mock seat allotment is available for the candidates who have filled their choices until June 22 & 19. In this process, candidates can modify or upgrade their choices. Candidates should take advantage of the mock seat allocation and choose as many academic programs as possible in the order of preference. Candidates must lock their choices after 2nd mock seat allocation. If candidates do not lock their choices, last saved choices will be locked automatically in the last minute of last date of choice filling. Candidates will not be able to change their choices /preferences order after last date.
JoSAA 2017 counselling has been conducted for those candidates who have qualified for JEE Advanced 2017 and JEE Main 2017. However, such candidates have register, fill choices of preferred colleges, pay the counselling fees and report to the allotted institutes for admission in the scheduled dates.
Highlights of JoSAA 2017 Counselling
Registration: To participate in JoSAA counselling 2017, the candidates must fill the online registration form which has commenced from June 15. Candidates must register themselves by entering JEE Main/JEE Advanced roll number and password.
Choice Filling: In this process, the candidates will have to select their preferred colleges and courses from the list provided as per the merit rank obtained by the candidates.
Seat Allotment and Announcement of Rank List: The allotment of seats will be done as per the JoSAA 2017 rank list. The seats will be allotted candidates as per their choice for the B.Tech programmes and colleges.
Seat Allotment Letter and Seat Acceptance Fee: The candidates who accepts the seat and completes the counselling of JoSAA 2017 must download the ‘Provisional Seat Allotment Letter’ and e-challan as acceptance fee.
Reporting to the Centres: The candidates have to report to their allotted centres for document verification for confirming their admission to allotted seats
Reporting at Allotted Institutes: After verification of the documents all the successful candidates have to report to the allotted institute and pay the remaining admission fee.
A candidate may be eligible for seat allocation based on one, two or all three examinations of JEE (Advanced) 2017, JEE (Main) 2017 Paper-1(B.E. / B.Tech.) and JEE (Main) 2017 Paper-2 (B.Arch. / B.Planning).The seat allotment of 2017 will be held in six rounds. For the purpose of seat allocation, eligible candidates will be divided into different categories. The categories are divided on the basis of birth category, nationality and absence or presence of disability. The category tags of candidates who are eligible for various seat categories are as shown in the table below:

JoSAA 2017 Eligibility Criteria – Who can participate
For admission to IITs eligibility criteria of JEE Advanced 2017 will be applicable, whereas, for admissions to NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs, the eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2017 will be applicable. Admission will be offered only to those candidates who will fulfil the eligibility criteria of JoSAA 2017. Admission to IITs and NITs, IIITs and GFTIs eligibility of JEE Advanced and JEE Main 2017 will be followed respectively. While admissions to institutes like IIEST, IIST and IISER eligibility criteria mentioned by the institutes will be considered.

The participating institutes include all government funded institutes like IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, IIEST, IISER, etc. The performance of the candidates in JEE Main 2017 and JEE Advanced 2017 will be considered while allotment in various undergraduate engineering programmes. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2017 has announced the names and addresses of reporting centres of JoSAA 2017 2017. Candidates will have to be present at these reporting centres to get their seats confirmed for admission to various undergraduate engineering programmes that are offered by various participating institutes for the academic year 2017-18.
- Candidates should report in person at a Reporting Centre for document verification before the date/time specified for document verification and get the seat confirmed.
- Candidates who have been allotted seats in IIT or ISM must report only at a reporting centre of the IITs.
- Candidates who have been allotted seats in an NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) or other-GFTI will have to be present at a reporting centre of NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) and Other-GFTI.
- If there is change in allotment of seats of a candidate from NIT to IIT/ISM or the other way round, in that case the candidate have to be present at the changed institute. In case the candidate fails to be present at the changed reporting centre, it will result in cancellation of his/her seats.
- At the conclusion of joint seat allocation and seat acceptance, candidates will have to report at the admitting institute, complete all the admission formalities of the Institute, get the admission confirmed and begin the academic session.
The rank list will be prepared on the basis different categories. There are 8 types of category wise rank list which will be considered for JoSAA 2017 Counselling. The Rank List of JoSAA 2017 is given in the table below.

JoSAA Rank List 2017- Tie breaking resolution
The authority will follow the inter-se-merit resolution if in case two or more candidates have same aggregate marks, then the below conditions will be applied:
- The higher rank to be awarded to the candidates who will obtain more marks in Mathematics.
- In case the tie still persists, the higher rank will be given to the candidate who has scored more marks in Physics.
- In case the still persists then the same rank will be awarded to the candidates.
JoSAA 2017 Opening and Closing Rank
The closing and opening ranks of different participating institutes will be announced during the seat allocation process. The opening rank will be the highest rank and the closing rank will be the last rank which will be accepted by the institutes for admission. The Opening and closing ranks will vary for each institute. The Opening and closing rank will also differ for different categories. Only the candidates whose rank is equal or falls within the opening and closing ranks will be eligible for taking admissions in the participating Institutes.

- OBC-NCL Rank
- SC Rank
- ST Rank
- PwD status.
JoSAA 2017 Freeze, Float, and Slide Options
The JoSSA 2017 Freeze, Float, and Slide Options provides an opportunity to candidates either to accept the allotted to seats after counselling round 1 or provide them an option to upgrade it in consecutive rounds of counselling. The Freeze, Float, and Slide Options can be used in the first round of JoSSA 2017 counselling. In the table given below candidates can know the detail of Freeze, Float, and Slide Options:
|Freeze||Candidates can confirm their offered seat and assure that they do not want to participate in further rounds of seat allocation. Once the candidates freeze their option they cannot participate in the subsequent rounds of admission.|
|Float||In this option candidates accept the offered seat and indicate that, if admission to an academic program of better/higher preference in any Institute is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently accepted seat.|
|Slide||This option indicates that after accepting the offered seat, if in the subsequent rounds the candidates are offered admission to an academic program of higher preference within the same allotted Institute, they will accept it. If not, they will retain the seat they have already accepted.|
Salient Features of JoSAA 2017
- The main purpose of JoSAA is to provide a single online platform for the candidates to apply in the Participating Institutes of JEE Main 2017/ JEE Advanced 2017 across the country.
- JoSAA 2017 will conduct the Counselling and Seat allotment to 97 Participating Institutions.
- Candidates qualifying JEE Main 2017 are eligible to register for seat allocation in NIT (except IITs & ISM).
- Candidates qualifying JEE Advanced 2017 are eligible to register for seat allocation in all the Participating Institutes.
- There will be seven rounds of Seat Allocation process for 600 academic programs offered by the Participating Institutes.
