JEE Main Analysis 2017 by Plancess

According to the experts of Plancess, the JEE Main 2017 Paper 1 was similar to the last couple of years, Maths was the simplest subject in JEE Main 2017, the winning point here was the time management. Since, the questions involved lot of calculations, the subject became lengthy and time-consuming.

When talking about Physics, the ratio of questions from class 11 and  were almost equal. 16 questions were from class 12 and 14 questions were from class 11. The difficulty level of which can be classified as – simple-11, moderate-10 and difficult-9. The questions asked were very straight forward and did not include any complexity or different levels of calculations. The key in solving such question was proper practice of basic concepts and tricky approach to solve the numericals.

Lastly, from the Chemistry section, only 11 questions were covered whereas 19 questions came from class 12th. Chemistry was the most difficult to attempt in JEE Main 2017 but the twist here was that most of the questions were focused from NCERT basic syllabus and only theoretical knowledge was required to score well in this section. 12 questions in this section fall into the category of moderate difficulty level, 7 were difficult and 11 were relatively simple.

Candidates can check the question distribution of Paper 1 as prepared by plancess int he table given below:

Subject Easy Questions Moderate Questions Hard Questions Total Difficulty Level*
Physics 11 10 9 30 4.8
Chemistry 11 12 7 30 4.6
Mathematics 12 11 7 30 4.5

The graphical representation of the subject wise difficulty level is provided below:

JEE Main 2017 Paper 1 Topic Wise Mark Distribution
As per the experts of Plancess, the most important deviation in Physics was that a significant amount of questions were asked from topics which usually don’t carry as much weightage. For example, there were at least eight questions asked from Mechanics, which is slightly unusual. Also, there were not as many questions from Electrostatics which is also a huge chapter and usually has significant weightage.

Most of the questions in Mathematics were from Methods of Differentiation and Applications of Derivatives from class 12. 21 questions were from class 12 and 9 were from 11. Overall, 12 questions were very simple, 11 moderate and 7 fall into the category of difficult.

From Chemistry section, Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry from class 11 and Biomolecules and Polymers from class 12 were most covered topics.

Overall, 68 various topics from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics were covered. Paper was quite easy. Aspirants with sound knowledge of basic and theoretical concepts who have solved the paper calmly avoiding the silly mistakes are expected to have done wonders. Comparing the pattern of JEE Main in the last couple of years, tentatively, the experts of Plancess are assuming that for JEE Main 2018 aspirants, the difficulty level of Physics will be most and Maths shall be the simplest.

Overall Analysis of JEE Main 2016

According to Mr. Anup Pandey, Vice President (Content), Plancess, the following are the salient features of the JEE Main 2016:

  • The Difficulty level of Paper: Overall, the difficulty level of the paper was moderate. As compared to JEE Main 2015, the overall difficulty level was more or less same, except there was a bit variance in the section-wise difficulty level. Chemistry section in the paper was the easiest one, however, the mathematics section was tougher than Physics section.

  • Distribution of questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Maths:

Sections Distribution of the topics
Physics Maximum questions were asked from Mechanics.
Chemistry Questions were evenly distributed in this section.
Mathematics Algebra and Calculus were the topics from which maximum number of questions were asked, i.e. 10 and 9, followed by 5 questions from Co-ordinate Geometry, 3 from 3D Vector and 2 from Trigonometry.
  • JEE Main 2015 Vis-a-vis JEE Main 2016 – A Comparative Analysis

  1. In JEE Main 2016, the questions asked in Physics section was of a moderate level while in 2015, the questions were rather tough.
  2. In 2016, the level of questions asked in Mathematics section was from moderate to tough while in 2015, the paper was difficult.
  3. Chemistry Paper was easy in both the years.
