JEE Advanced 2017 Total Marks Lowered by 3The Paper 1 of JEE Advanced 2017 exam has been conducted on May 21. There have been some changes in the marking scheme of Paper 1 this year. As compared to last year, the maximum marks of the paper have been reduced from 186 to 183. In 2016, the JEE Advanced Paper 1 was held for a total of 186 marks while in 2017 the maximum marks of paper was 183. The Paper 1 of JEE Advanced 2017 was divided into three parts – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In 2016, the maximum marks in each of these three parts were 62. This year, this number has been reduced to 61.

As was the case last year, each of three parts of JEE Advanced 2017 Paper 1 was further divided into three sections – Section 1, Section 2 and Section 3. The questions in each section were uniformly distributed.

If we do a section-wise comparison from last year, we find that the maximum marks in the Section 1 of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics have been increased from 15 to 28. In Section 2 of all the three subjects, the maximum marks have been reduced from 32 to 15. And in Section 3, the maximum marks have been increased from 15 to 18.

As far as the number of questions in the Paper 1 of JEE Advanced 2017 is concerned, the total number remains the same i.e. 54. However, if we look at the section-wise break-up of the questions, there have been a few changes. In Section 1, the number of questions has been increased from 5 to 7. In Section 2, the number of questions has been reduced from 8 to 5. In Section 3, the number of questions has been increased from 5 to 6. For a better understanding, take a look at the tables given below

It must be noted that this year, the order of the sections was changed. The Section 1 of last year was the Section 3 of this year, the Section 2 of last year was the Section 1 of this year, and the Section 3 of last year was the Section 2 of this year.

Also, unlike last year when more weightage was given to Class 12 questions, equal weightage was given to Class 11 and Class 12 questions in JEE Advanced 2017 Paper 1. The Matching Type questions asked this year were different than those asked in previous years.
