GATE 2017GATE 2017 – The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017 was conducted by IIT Roorkee on February 4, 5, 11, and 12, 2017. GATE 2017 was held for 23 papers in 8 sessions around 680 test centres across India. The official answer key of GATE 2017 was released on February 26, 2017. The Result of GATE has been announced on March 26, 2017, in the online mode.  Earlier, the result was scheduled to be declared on March 27. The result has been released for all the candidates who have appeared in the aptitude test. The score card of GATE for all the qualified candidates is available to download from March 26 to May 5, 2017. Through GATE 2017, the IITs, NITs, CFITs and other universities in India will allocate seats to M.E./M.Tech programmes offered by them.  Many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like GAIL, ONGC, BHEL, IOCL, etc. also uses GATE score to recruit engineering graduates. GATE 2017 Result

The Result of GATE 2017 is made available online on March 26, 2017. The Scorecard of GATE 2017 is also available to download for the candidates who have qualified in the entrance test. To check the result and download the scorecard, the candidates will have to follow the steps below:

  • Click on the link provided above.
  • Enter Enrollment Number/E-mail Id and Password.
  • Submit the captcha answer.
  • Click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Check and download the GATE Scorecard 2017.

On the basis of GATE Result 2017, the candidates will be shortlisted for admission in IITs, NITs, and CFTIs. Numerous PSUs will also call candidates for recruitment if they surpass the cutoff. Though the candidates can download the scorecard online. However, it will be provided to the PSUs on the payment basis. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the conducting body and institutes will be followed for this purpose.

GATE 2017 Score Card

Only candidates who qualify in the GATE exam will be able to download the GATE 2017 Score Card from March 26, 2017 onwards till May 5, 2017. Candidates must download the same before the specified dates. The Score Card for GATE 2017  will be required for admissions to the M.Tech courses or during PSU recruitment. Candidates must note that the score card for GATE is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of the declaration of the result. The score card can be downloaded only by candidates who have qualified in GATE 2017.

It may be noted that candidates who fail to download their score card by May 5, 2017 can obtain it on through GOAPS can avail it by paying Rs. 500 until December 31. After this the score card will not available by any means.

GATE 2017 Cutoff

The minimum score that is used to screen the admissions to the M.Tech programmes is the GATE cutoffs. The qualifying cutoff score is the minimum score that is determined by the GATE authorities to declare whether the student has qualified in GATE exam or not. The GATE 2017 Cutoff will be separately determined by the individual institutes (IITs) or the common body in case of NITS through CCMT. It may be noted that cutoffs will be separate for the institutes, courses, category of students. 

The GATE 2017 Cutoff will be measured in terms of the All India Rank or the GATE score or marks scored in the GATE exam depending upon the institute, PSU etc. Candidates are advised to understand the same.

GATE 2017 Answer Key

The official answer key of GATE 2017 has been released by IIT Roorkee on February 26, 2017. The candidates can download the GATE 2017 answer key to know their score based on the number of correct responses. The GATE 2017 answer key can be downloaded by clicking on the heading above. The answer key has been provided for all the 23 subjects.

As per the officials, candidates can challenge any answer given in the GATE 2017 Official Answer Key from 3 March till 6 March 2017 ((10:00 hours). While challenging GATE 2017 answer key candidates have to quote the proper question number of the question paper. The challenge will be only accepted on payment of Rs. 500 (for each question) through the online payment portal available in the GOAPS.

PSU Recruitment Through GATE 2017

A large number of PSUs are recruiting through GATE 2017. The announcements for the recruitment have started along with the GATE 2017 Application Form. The actual application process for the PSUs has started after the announcement of the Admit Card for GATE, which was on January 4, 2017. The reason is that all PSU applications will ask candidates to enter their GATE 2017 Registration No which will be available only through the GATE Admit Card.

The PSU recruitment will be based on the GATE 2017 Scores/ rank/ marks out of 100 in GATE 2017 exam. Candidates must check the selection criteria before applying to understand the same.

GATE 2017 Counselling

GATE 2017 Counselling as such is not existent as there is no common counselling announced though reports suggest something on those lines is being considered by the IIT Council. For the admissions to the IITs, Candidates must apply individually to the IITs when the admissions are announced. The M.Tech admissions to the NITs are held through the CCMT which is the common counselling held every year by the NITs. Many state admissions are through GATE scores and candidates again have to individually apply for the same.

GATE 2017 Admit Card

The recent event of GATE is the issuance of admit card. The issuance started on January 04, 2017. IIT Roorkee uploaded the hall ticket of the properly and provisionally registered candidates on the GOAPS. To download the Admit Card of GATE, candidates need to follow the instructions below:

  • Click on the link provided above.
  • Enter Enrollment ID or Email Address and Password.
  • Enter the value for captcha.
  • Tab the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Check and download the admit card.

While downloading the admit card, if the candidate forgets the Password or Enrollment ID, they may retrieve it by clicking on the ‘Forgot Enrollment ID or Password’ button.

Checking the admit card thoroughly is an important step. If the details mentioned in it are incorrect, the candidate must approach the zonal centre.

At the exam centre, the candidates will have to carry a coloured copy of the GATE 2017 Admit Card. With it, the one Photo ID proof will also be required. The valid Photo ID could be any of the following:

  • Driving License
  • Employee ID Card
  • PAN Card
  • Voter ID
  • Aadhar Card
  • College ID
  • Passport

Note: For international candidates, the valid ID card can only be Passport/College ID/Govt. issued ID, and Valid Employee ID.

About GATE 2017

IIT Roorkee has conducted the GATE Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in 2017 jointly with six Indian Institutes of Technology namely IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The GATE exam is held for 23 Papers. GATE Scores are used for the M.Tech admissions at the IITs, NITs and other institutions. The exam was conducted on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

IIT Roorkee has announced the following new features in GATE 2017.

GATE 2017 Zonal Centres

GATE is administered by IISc Bangalore and seven IITs as given below in the table. These are the designated eight Zonal Centres. The GATE exam cities are divided under these eight zonal centres for GATE 2017. Candidates must approach these zonal institutes for resolving problems regarding their GATE application form, application status, admit card, result and score card. In case of problems, candidates will have to approach the GATE Zonal Centre under which their first choice of exam city is listed.

GATE 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Only candidates who meet the given eligibility criteria will be allowed to appear for the GATE exam. The GATE eligibility criteria is listed as below for the benefit of the aspirants:

Nationality – Candidates must be a citizen of India. Students from Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, or United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) can apply as International candidates.
Age Limit – There is no age limit for GATE 2017. 
Minimum Pass Percentage in Qualifying Exam   There is no specified minimum pass percentage or CGPA for applying and appearing in GATE 2017. Candidates who have passed the qualifying exam as given in the table below can apply for GATE 2017

Discipline: Candidates must have passed a qualifying degree in Science, Statistics, Maths, Engineering or Technology as specified in the table below. Architecture students are also allowed to appear for the exam.

GATE 2017 Application Form

The GATE 2017 Application Form was available from September 1 till October 10, 2016. Candidates had to register and fill the same through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Candidates must have uploaded the scanned images of their photograph, signature, thumb impression and eligibility certificate along with the application form. Reserved category candidates (SC/ST) must have uploaded their category certificates.

The following are the steps to fill the GATE 2017 Application Form:

1. Registration: Candidates must register first by entering details like their Name,  a valid Email ID and mobile number. They must enter a password as per specifications (must be 8 to 15 characters).

2. Enrolment ID: Candidates will be sent their Enrolment ID required to log in via their registered Email. This must be kept safe by candidates till the score cards are announced and downloaded.

3. Filling the Application Form: Candidates must fill their personal, academic details as well as their address. They must enter the GATE paper they will be appearing for. They must also choose three exam centres from the given list while filling in the application form. Details of a valid photo id must be entered and candidates must remember to carry this along with the admit card to the exam hall.

4. Uploading of photograph, signature, thumb impression and documents as specified below.

5. Payment of the application fee: Candidates will have to pay Rs 1500 (Rs 750 for SC/ST/Pwd/Female candidates) as application fees through net banking or EChallan to be downloaded. Additional bank charges applicable as per norms.

6. Submission: Candidates must submit their application form and print the copy of the application form after submission for their reference. They need not send any documents to the GATE authorities.

The GATE 2017 Application Status:
 was available after October 15, 2016. Candidates who have filled their application forms can check the status of the same by logging in through GOAPS. The status is updated after the receipt and scrutiny of the form by the respective zonal centre. Candidates were intimated via SMS and Email after October 15, 2016, regarding their GATE 2017 Application Form. Candidates could correct minor mistakes in the application form through the facility announced by IIT Roorkee after October 20, 2016.

GATE 2017 Exam Centers

The candidates may choose any of three choices while submitting the application form. Unlike previous years, this time, candidates could choose the second and third choice in any of the zones specified for GATE 2017. About 211 cities have been announced as the GATE 2017 Exam Cities where the GATE exam will be held. The total number of GATE 2017 Exam Centres are expected to be about 680 across 26 states and union territories of the country. The GATE 2017 zonal centre is determined by the exam city which falls under its jurisdiction.

How to Prepare for GATE 2017

  • All aspirants of GATE must start with checking the syllabus, paper pattern and understand what they need to study. 
  • They must schedule their study for the GATE exam in a phased manner.
  • First the basics must be tackled and understood till candidates can apply them to the various questions.
  • After every topic, it is advisable to attempt the questions pertaining to the topic.
  • All candidates must analyse each performance and improve on the mistakes made. 
  • Equal Emphasis must be placed on General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics as these are scoring sections.
  • Make short notes during the initial preparation to aid during the last minute revisions.
  • Motivation is the key to success. Remember that each failure becomes a stepping stone towards success. Therefore if in the initial stages, the performance may not be high, it should be of no concern. It will pick up after a certain time when the preparation takes momentum.
  • Success in GATE will come through dedicated intense preparation and a never give up attitude.

Important GATE 2017 Features are

  • Organizing Institute for GATE 2017 is IIT Roorkee. It will conduct the exam along with six other IITs namely IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati and IISc Bangalore. These are the GATE 2017 zonal centres and will aid in the administration as well as the smooth functioning of the GATE Exam.
  • The complete GATE process is online through GATE Online Application Process System (GOAPS). Candidates can utilize the GOAPS to register and log in to fill their GATE 2017 Application Form. If they are successful in applying for GATE 2017, candidates can use the GOAPs to check their GATE 2017 application status,  download their GATE admit card, check their GATE result, download their GATE score card and more
  • The exam is also online and will be held for 23 papers as listed below on this page.  Some disciplines like  ME, CS, ECE, EE, CE have a large number of applicants and therefore these papers will be held in multiple sessions.
  • Candidates must now use the Virtual Calculator provided along with the GATE 2017 Computer Based Tests for all their calculations. Candidates will not be allowed to carry physical calculators to the exam hall.
  • Candidates can download their GATE 2017 Admit Card from January 4, 2017 till February 12, 2017. It will not be dispatched by any other means. Candidates will require their GATE admit cards for the PSU recruitment or M.Tech admissions so they must keep the admit Card of GATE 2017 safe.
  • To ensure that there is no impersonation, random Bio-metric verification of the candidates will be conducted on February 4 & 5 and February 11 & 12, 2017 when the GATE 2017 exam will be held.
  • Any Electronic gadgets, mobiles, calculators will not be allowed inside the exam hall. Candidates must avoid carrying these to the GATE exam as they run the risk of being debarred from the exam. Such candidates will not be considered for the exam and their GATE Result will be withheld. 
  • IIT Roorkee will announce the GATE 2017 Answer Keys  a few days after February 12, 2017 when the GATE 2017 exam will be over. after the Answer Keys are announced, candidates can challenge the same within a specified time frame and on payment of a specified fee as will be declared by IIT Roorkee
  • The GATE 2017 Result will be announced on March 27, 2017 and the GATE 2017 Score Card can be downloaded thereafter from the same day ie. March 27, 2017. Only candidates who have qualified in the exam will be able to download the score card.
  • GATE 2017 Score Card is valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of the GATE result
