How To Solve IITJEE Level Mathematics Problems

To Solve any IITJEE Mathematics Problems it requires a lot of working procedure. You need to have strategies to solve different types of problem since every problem cannot be solved in same way. The 4 basic or fundamental steps to solve IITJEE math’s problems are

  • To Understand the problem at hand
  • To plan for the solution
  • To try the plan and finally
  • Looking back at the solution and method adopted

To Understand: - Before solving any problem try to understand it. Read it again if you don’t understand first time. Try to extract clues and determine what the problem is asking you. You can ascertain yourself by answering the below questions.

  • What is the unknown?
  • What are the data?
  • What is the condition?

To Plan:-Once you understand the problem and you are able to get the clue, its now time to use your past experience to solve the problem. Think of some questions

  • Do you know a related problem?
  • Look at the unknown! And try to think of a familiar problem having the same or similar unknown?

To Try the Idea:-After deciding the plan you should try it and see what answer are you coming up with. Try the following questions

  • Can you see clearly that the step is correct?
  • But can you also prove that the step is correct?

Looking Back: - Once you tried it and found the answer, go back to the problem and see if you have really answered the question. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook something .If you missed something check your plan and try the problem again. Finally check these questions

  • Can you check the result?
  • Can you check the arguments of the questions?
  • Can you derive the result differently?

Applying the above idea of problem solving in mathematics would be difficult initially but if you keep on approaching any problem by dividing in these four parts slowly you will develop an expertise in tackling problems of the level of IITJEE
