The institute you choose for higher studies shapes not only your career but also your life and the stakes are very high as you invest your money and precious years. Here we give you a brief checklist that will help in understanding if the institute you have chosen is a genuine one.

Lack of information

The prospectus and the websites of not so good institutes are usually full of tall claims but miss the basic credible information about faculty, admission process clarity, infrastructure and placements. Make it a point to talk to the alumni of the institute and learn from their experiences. Anyone who has been fooled by a fake institute will in all probability tell you the truth.

It’s all in the name

Shakespeare once quoted,  “What’s in a name?” There is a lot in a name. Any institute that has a name similar to any famous and reputable institution of learning will in all probability be a fake or mediocre institute that banks upon the popularity of the name and fools the vulnerable students. Certain institutes use the word India or Indian to give an impression of pan India presence or to pretend as if they are government centers of study. Do a thorough research before taking admission.

Check the Admission procedure closely

Examine the admission process of the institute.  Any institute that accepts the score of numerous tests for admissions may not be reliable. The college having hidden rules about admission process, fees, categories, number of seats, counseling process etc can’t be trusted.

Unusual duration of course

Institutes that claim to offer degrees, dual degrees, diplomas or any qualification in less than the usual time need close scrutiny. A slight promise to save your time might actually ruin your lifetime.

Any media report questioning the authenticity?

There is no smoke without fire. If an institute has been covered in the list of fake institutes by any media house or any other government body like AICTE, HRD etc, then watch institutes with care.

Foreign collaborations

A world tour, dual degrees and free laptops can be tempting but the honeymoon ends once you enroll and deposit the fee. Collaborations and tie ups with foreign universities are in fashion but it is wise to verify before taking a decision. Do check the quality of such tie-ups and whether the promises are actually delivered.
