An Interview with a Student of LNMIIT Jaipur

Entrance Corner had an interview with Krishna Teja a student of LNMIIT Jaipur. We hope this interview will help you during your counselling time.

1)  Tell us something about yourself and what are you doing currently?

Ans- I am Krishna Teja, a student of 3rd year, B.tech (Communications and Computer Engineering) from The LNMIIT, Jaipur. I belong to Hyderabad.

2)   How did you get into LNMIIT? Through which exam and what was your rank?

Ans- I got into LNMIIT through AIEEE-2007 and my ank was AIR-4453.

3)  Do you find LNMIIT to be a better option than any other NIT? If yes, how?

Ans- I find LNMIIT to be a better option than many other NITs for the following reasons-

• For those who missed getting admission into the best branch in the best IITs, the next best option would certainly be an institute which can impart education at a level comparative to any other best institute. My decision to join the LNMIIT was driven by this reason only. With my rank in AIEEE, I would have easily got into a very renowned NIT, but I took a step which was not supported by many of my well wishers, that is joining LNMIIT. But today, I can say my decision was certainly the best.
• With highly qualified faculty here we get ample chances to go for internships all over the world. It is simply, we do the duty of studying well. The rest is assured.
• With the highest Phd Faculty is to student ratio in India (Out of the older IITs), we get not only to study the subjects, but indeed learn and apply them.
• Research is extremely important to grade an institution. Here at LNMIIT, with most of the faculty being very active researchers, students also get an opportunity to learn more than the texts. In simple words, we get a better chance to learn more than students of many other institutes. Many students themselves have published papers in various journals and conferences all over the world.
• For a 12th pass, selecting a discipline for his life is extremely difficult and confusing. But with its unique outlook, LNMIIT admits a student not to a course, but to the University. Thus student gets a chance to change his branch even after his 2nd year. This is something very unique to The LNMIIT.
• We get a chance to get exposed to 2 very bright areas- Computers and Communications. A student of CSC can take up courses in ECE and vice versa, the system is extremely flexible in terms of electives. The electives offered are wide in range. Thus we get a chance to do courses which we would like to pursue.

4)  How is the environment at LNMIIT? Do you find faculty members cooperative even after classes?

Ans- Environment at LNMIIT is something which any student would easily get adjusted to and indeed like too. The best part is the congenial interaction between the students and the faculty. It is no exaggeration to say that faculty here is extremely dedicated to help us in any way they can. Ours is a small institute in strength, this indeed is a boon.

Every student has access to every faculty, even after the class hours. This interaction extends from academics to other extra activities like sports and cultural events. And with special funds allotted to student’s out- of- class activities, we run many clubs and committees. Every day there would be some or the other activity going on keeping the campus active and lively.

5)  Are you satisfied with the teaching pattern at LNMIIT?

Ans-Teaching pattern at LNMIIT is unique in its own way. Obviously, with faculty who have gained their experience in renowned universities all over the world, the approach is to teach “ Learn How To Learn”.   Every faculty here takes not more than one course in one semester. So he/she is completely dedicated to impart the best to the class.

Every decision taken about the courses and teaching have the student’s contribution to  it. Every Institute Committee like the Academic Council , Under Graduate Committee, etc. has student’s representation in it. Thus student’s interests  are given utmost importance.  It is believed Students are the most important stake holders of the institute.

Faculty mostly teach those courses which is their research area. Thus students get exposed to things out of bounds of text. Regular evaluation in terms of course Projects and assignments is done. Thus study is a continuous activity here , rather than one day study before the exams.  Regular feedback taken from the students has its influence in various decisions taken.

6)  What is the placement status at LNMIIT?

Ans-To be frank, Placements as of date have to be rated good. Ours is a relatively new institute, with a small Alumni Base, which can only improve in the years to come. During 3 years of my stay here, I have observed the status only improving.

Companies who have visited till now have left their assurance of visiting us again, impressed by the students here. With infact very good placement statistics (even during the period of recession) and with constant efforts of our Placement Cell, the placements scenario will see improvements every year.

Thus in 2-3 years down the line, our placements would certainly reach that state where we would be considered a bench mark in placements. I can say, every student in this institute gains so much confidence that placements become something default  which students need not really worry about.

7)  How is life at LNMIIT?

Ans- Life at LNMIIT gains its charm with a plethora of activities. We have a very well structured student body, making a perfect student democracy. Students are given complete independence to decide what type of campus life they want, of course, that independence would be constrained to few bounds and structures.

From the annual Cultural and Tech Fest – VIVACITY  to small intra campus activities, everything is managed by students ONLY. Students are entertained to form groups and clubs to nurture their interests and talents. Thus we have good number of active clubs carrying out events throughout the session.

In whole, campus life can termed APT for a student life!!

8)  Do you believe LNMIIT can compete with topmost colleges like IITs and BITS? If yes, how?

Ans-Of course, LNMIIT can compete with topmost institutes like the IITs and BITS.  In various aspects, I can claim we are better. But adhering to the truth, we have long way to go in order to build a name like the IITs, which they have taken almost 50 years to build.

But on a student to student comparison, LNMIITian would in no angle lesser than any IITian. What we gain here is knowledge and confidence required for life which directly would imply our name in the future.

9)  Do you think LNMIIT provides you enough exposure for higher studies?

Ans-Higher studies is given the highest emphasis here. What we all believe is that B.Tech is just a base created which can have excellent buildings built on it. We are exposed to many number of electives and it is students choice to select them.

Once the interest is known, it would be the students responsibility to build up on that, what the institute does is just to show the taste of everything and try to create interest. By higher studies we mean every type of masters and phd programs.

This year especially, we have got our seniors selected in IIMs for MBA and various IITs and IISc Bangalore for M.Tech. The previous records say many of our seniors are doing their masters and Phd in many reputed foreign  universities and in India as well.

Few of our seniors are even continuing their higher studies at LNMIIT itself, for we have Masters and Phd programs also offered here. Students are encouraged and helped in acquiring internships at various universities all over the world.

Few places where LNMIITians have put their impression  both during internships and higher studies include New York, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, Taiwan, Singapore, Austin, California, etc. Good emphasis given to Humanities and Social science courses here even create a good base for students aspiring for MBA Degree.

10) Tell us about the hostel facility provided at LNMIIT.

Ans-Our Hostels could be told as one of the best in India. Belonging to a far off place like Hyderabad, for me hostel was a very important factor to select a college. Looking at the hostels here, I just took it for granted, I don’t need to worry about my stay here.

Till 3rd year we get a double room, with a personal table, chair, table light, fan, central air cooler, a bed a branded mattress,  personal rack, etc. The bathrooms are equipped with geysers for winters. The hostels are cleaned daily and we have special official who will take care of all hostel issues.  A mess is run in the campus which takes care of food requirements. A well run canteen, a milk and juice parlour, a laundry, a clinic (with doctor visiting daily from the a city hospital)- all these add to the hostel facilities.

We have a 22 Mbps high speed internet facility at the campus. In the hostels, library and the academics area, we have wi-fi running.

11) Any advice to our readers, any tips that you would like to share with our readers?

Ans-I would suggest all of you to know all details about an institute before opting for it. Few very important aspects while selecting an institute must be- scope for higher studies, research activities, scope for studying something of our interest, FACULTY, Extra Curricular Activities. Branch is extremely important.

There is nothing like a popular branch or most preferred branch. It must be opted according to choice. But for a 12th pass, knowing more about branches in engineering would be difficult. So, it is better consult as many students of various colleges as possible and ask about their disciplines.

Take an overview what is learnt in each field and compare it with what you like.  For example, if one in not interested in Computer Science and has taken that due to pressure, it is nothing but to simply do something of dislike, the complete life.  EVERY BRANCH HAS ITS OWN IMPORTANCE.

Aim of a B.Tech must not be to settle in a job after it. One has to go a step ahead after it.  If you are joining any institute, join it with full heart and trust. Believe in your choice!
