Koffee with Manoj...
Manoj gave an exclusive interview to "www.entrancecorner.com"
1. When did you start preparing for IITJEE 2009?
I started my preparation for IIT-JEE in December 2006.It was actually for the entrance into a prestigious coaching center for preparation of IIT. But, I was unsuccessful in getting into it.
2. For what other exams did you appear and what were your ranks in these exams?
- IITJEE - AIR 632 in the open category and ranked 67th in the OBC category
- AIEEE- I can't reveal my AIEEE rank because I had left studies after JEE (because of the confidence I got)
- BITSAT – Score-335
- State Exam – 235
3. How many hours did you study?
I didn't have a particular timetable or fixed hours. But I used to decide on a weekly schedule and complete that within the week itself.
4. How’s your life @ IIT? Please describe the daily scenario.
Life here is really exciting. People come here expecting something and always get more than they expect. That's the excitement in this life and especially in IIT Kharagpur. You should study even after coming to IIT and you will enjoy a lot here.
5. Which books did you follow during your preparations?
For all the three subjects it's better to follow Arihant’s series of textbooks as concepts are better covered
Maths:
I followed Arihant series and Das Gupta for Maths
Physics:
I followed Arihant series and did problems from I.E.Irodov
Chemistry:
For chemistry I followed Arihant series and I did numericals from the Bansal class material
For concepts I used to prefer Lecturers notes rather any other book. So it’s not a big problem for me to get the concepts cleared.
Organic
Arihant Organic Chemistry
Inorganic:
For Inorganic chemistry you should study J.D.Lee. This book is very useful. I advice this book to all the IITJEE aspirants. I had studied this book and gained an extra edge over others.
Physical:
For physical part, try to practice more problems.Thats the only secret to score high in this part.
6. What advice would you like to give to the future aspirants?
I would like to advice the future IITJEE aspirants to never give up and always try competing with yourself not with your peers. Give your best and leave the rest to god.
Best of Luck to all the IITJEE 2010 Aspirants

Good work manoj: However i have filled in the blank spaces....from little piece of advices below
Everybody aspiring for Jee 2010 or 2011 who have read the above so called interview, must have got some inspiration. However, i want to tell to all some important points not covered:
* People who EXCEL dont study something different, They only study it differently. Let me elaborate, most of the aspirants must be going to coaching classes, there must be conducting o tests, and OBVIOUSLY somebody must be a topper and all must be getting particular ranks. The topper is a guy who comes to class like all of others, and gains from the teacher like everybody other in the class. SO then if everything is same, then what makes him/her a topper. Let me tell you:
- He/she doesn’t study some other other source, let me tell you that.
- He/she studies what is told by the teacher. (What I have written is very ambiguous? Because most of the others also does that……then what the hell I mean by that! See, studying doesn’t mean to study only….it has various components…like:
- How to study?
- Way of study?
- For how much time to study a particular heading or a sub-heading?
Let me help you on that:
1.First of all, suppose you are studying chemistry? Let’s say the topic is Chemical Kinetics? Ok ..then …how to study it!
See, supposedly you are attending your lectures at tution classes regularily, and it is your first lecture on the topic mentioned above. Then what? Hey, listen to the lecture carefully….the teacher will tut you all the concepts. Ask, your doubts to the teacher after the class, and after that also if you are not clear, then ask your teacher which particular source to recommend for that sub-heading. Now, go to home read your lecture notes again and then see if you can get though that,,if then also you are not then REFER to that source..
Due to shortage of time I am just leaving this much…..
I cant disclose my identity….I have created a fake ID named
nikhil.rana20@gmail.com where you can ask your queries
