try proving it in reverse way

let x-y/2 , y/2 , z-y/2 be in GP

then use the GM condn

and u'll get x , y and z  in HP

x,y,z are in HP

therefore,firstly u get a relation: y=2xz/(x+z) ......................(1)

now for three terms to be in GP,their common ratios must be equal....

therefore,get the common ratios........

substitute (1) in it & u get the required ans..............
