Since the day, the notification for JEE Main 2017 has been released, confusion and never ending questions are boggling the brains of the engineering aspirants. According to the notice released on November 18, 2016, Aadhaar Card is now a mandatory document for the JEE applicants. This is causing a lot of anxiety to those who either do not possess it or belong to the states where the Aadhaar Card has not been issued at all.
Considering the complexities of the situation, CBSE has clarified the air by providing the solutions to most of the issues arising from usage of Aadhaar Number. The Board has also specified that the purpose of using Aadhaar Card is to acquire accurate details of the applicants and the need to produce multiple documents for verification can be eliminated. Still, the questions which lingers is; Can I Apply for JEE Main 2017 if I don’t possess an Aadhaar Card? What if I belong to the state where Aadhaar has not been issued yet? Details in my Aadhaar Card do not match with my school records, what should I do now? All of these and more issues have been cleared below.
Can I fill JEE Main 2017 Application Form if I don’t have an Aadhaar Card?
Practically speaking, no the aspirant cannot apply for JEE Main 2017 if they do not possess Aadhaar Card. The JEE Main 2017 Notification clearly says so. However, there is a solution for every problem.
For Students of J&K, Assam, and Meghalaya – Since the Aadhaar Card has not been issued in these states by the Government, the students of these states do not require Aadhaar Number for filling the JEE Main 2017 application form. Instead, the residents of these states will have to enter the details of any of the following documents:
- Passport Number
- Ration Card Number
- Bank Account Number
- Any other valid Government ID Number like Voter ID, PAN Card etc
Note: The above mentioned documents will only stand valid if the candidates select the city of the examination as either Jammu and Kashmir or Assam or Meghalaya.
For Students of Other States: Candidates belonging to states apart from the three mentioned above, do not have any other option but to submit the Aadhaar Number. Those who do not possess the requisite documents need not worry. CBSE has collaborated with UIDAI and together they are taking various measures to allocate Aadhaar Card to each student as soon as possible
How to get the Aadhaar Card?
The Application Form of JEE Main 2017 will be available from December 01, 2016 to January 02, 2017. Both CBSE and UIDAI are taking numerous measures to assist students in getting the Aadhaar Card as soon as possible.
Go to an Aadhaar Centre –The candidates who do not have an Aadhaar Card till date are required to submit an application for the same. They have to visit the Aadhaar Enrolment Centres located nearby and fulfil the formalities. To locate Aadhaar Card centre in your area – Click Here
CBSE Facilitation Centres – CBSE has set up various facilitation centres in each state. Candidates can also take help of these centres for preparing their Aadhaar Card. The centres will not be charging any fee from the student for the enrolment and will help them at various stages of enrolment.
What to do if the Aadhaar Enrolment facility is not provided at the centre?
If the facility to enrol is not available at the centre then the candidates just need to submit a request for the enrolment. In return to which, a registration number will be issued to them. This number has to be entered while filling the JEE Main application form.
What to do if I have enrolled for the Aadhaar Card but have not received it yet?
In this case, candidates can use their 28 digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID, as printed on the Aadhaar enrolment slip, as the Aadhaar Number. It will stand valid while filling the form.
The information in my Aadhaar Card does not match with the School records?
The Aadhaar Number will be unique for each candidates once allotted. Therefore there will be no change in it even if candidates get corrections done. Candidates can easily get their details corrected from the online website of UIDAI. To make the corrects, just follow the steps below:

Q: My Aadhar has some spelling error in address will I face any problem in filling JEE form?
A: No, The Aadhaar Number, Name only matters when filling the JEE Main 2017 Application Form. So if your name matches the UIDAI database for Aadhaar No, then you can fill the form. The address is not so important for the identity of the person.
Q: Can I register for JEE Mains, if on the Aadhar card my surname is not written?
A: No. If the name on your Aadhaar Card doesnt match the one that you are using to register and fill the JEE Main 2017 Application, you will not be able to fill the form. We would suggest that you get the corrections done, wait for a few days and then once it is corrected, you can fill the application form. The last date for the JEE application if January 2, 2017.
Q: What if the Aadhaar Card is not made on time even if I apply now?
A: In that case, you should use the Aadhaar enrolment no which is a 28 digit number that is given once an Aadhaar application is filled and submitted. The Aadhaar number is allotted only once the verification is done. so use the Enrolment number and fill the JEE Main 2017 Application Form.
Q: Is it ok if I use the Aadhaar Card and the name given on it even if it is slightly wrong as my surname is misspelt?
A: No. We ouldnt advise it. Later you will face problems so get the Aadhaar details corrected and then apply for JEE Main 2017
Q: I am from Meghalaya and I dont have a voter card or any document that has been specified. What should I do?
A: Open a bank account as the bank account details can be used to fill the form. Opening a bank account wont take much time and you can fill the JEE Main 2017 Application on time.
Q: Is it mandatory to go to the facilitation Centres for the Aadhaar Card?
A: No. But it would be easy to go and get the Aadhaar Card done from these centres as these are set up for JEE aspirants only. So if you have such a centre nearby, you should go there rather than an Aadhaar enrolment centre at some other place. after all there is no charges involved.
Q: Can one get the corrections done online for the Aadhaar Card?
A: If your mobile number is registered, then you can apply for the corrections online. The new Aadhar Card will be dispatched to your registered address.
Q: My mobile number is not registered with my Aadhaar card. So, how can I correct my Aadhaar card online?
A: In that case, you will have to visit the nearest Aadhaar Centre for this. Submit the details and get the correction done.
Q: Is date of birth mandatory on Aadhar card for JEE Mains registration?
A: Yes, as per the CBSE. The details will be matched with the UIDAI databse and then you can proceed with the JEE Main 2017 Registration.
