BITS Dubai FAQS 2012

Q1. What is the eligibility criteria for admission into BITS Dubai?

Ans. Admission to BITS, Pilani - Dubai is based entirely on the candidates merit, his/her preferences, facilities available and availability of seats in the discipline preferred.

Q2. Who all can apply for BITS Dubai?

Ans.  The Dubai Campus has been set-up, specially to cater to the educational requirements of the residents of the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries, candidates from other countries are also eligible to apply. Admissions are open to all nationalities.

Q3. What is the minimum overall aggregate required for applying to BPD?

Ans. A student must have a minimum of 60% overall aggregate marks and also an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects.

Q4. What do you mean by GCC and Non-GCC Applicants? What is the preference GCC Students get?

Ans. Candidates who are Residents of any GCC Country or have their parents as Residents in any GCC Country will be treated as GCC candidates. The rest shall be treated as Non-GCC candidates. Since BITS, Pilani - Dubai is primarily committed to cater to the educational requirements of the residents of the GCC Countries, the selection process takes place through two merit lists separately for the GCC and NON-GCC candidates.

The first merit list comprises of GCC candidates. After allotment and acceptance of seats by GCC candidates, the second merit list is prepared which comprises of NON-GCC candidates. All balance seats left after allotting to the GCC candidates are allotted to the NON-GCC candidates in order of their merit.

All other aspects such as Fee Structure, submission of various documents etc are applicable equally to GCC and Non-GCC candidates.

Q5. I have received a letter of eligibility from BPD. Is it a confirmation for admission?

This letter states that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission and hence certain of getting a seat if you have marked all the disciplines in the order of your preference.

Q6. How will the Admission Letter be sent to me?

The Admission offer letter will be dispatched by courier to you and a copy will be sent by e-mail also. You can also check on the website by entering your unique Application Number.

Q7. What is the medium of instruction?

Ans. English is the medium of instruction at BPD, good proficiency in English is essential for admission. Hence candidates who have completed their qualifying examination from Non-English Medium Schools must have secured a TOEFL Score of 500 in paper based test or 61 in internet based test or have an IELTS Score of 5. If necessary, they will also be assessed by an institute-committee for English Comprehension.

Q8. In the qualifying exam which all subjects aggregate is considered?

Ans. The Aggregate must compulsorily contain the required subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
