Entrance Examinations

Candidates will have to appear for one of the entrance examinations depending upon the category under which they are seeking admission as mentioned in the table in Admission Process section. The details of these examinations are given in the succeeding paragraphs.

General Category, Defence, North East, DGHC, Paramilitary Force, SMU Staff: The candidates will have to appear for the AIEEE to be conducted by the CBSE. The candidates are also required to fill up the SMIT admission form and submit the same to SMIT by prescribed date. Candidates should intimate their AIEEE ranking to SMIT by FAX as soon as the AIEEE result are declared. They must send the down loaded rank along with a Xerox copy of the original application form already send in order to be eligible for counseling and admission. Counseling will be conducted at SMIT on the dates mentioned separately in this prospectus. Please note that SMIT does NOT participate in the counseling carried out by Central Counseling Board of AIEEE. Sikkim Category: Candidates should apply to the Director-Technical Education, Government of Sikkim. The Government of Sikkim will conduct an entrance examination (CET), the details of which will be notified by the Director-Technical Education.  UGET2 General Category: Candidates, seeking admission under this category will have to appear for the entrance test (UGET2) that will be conducted by SMU.

MU-ENAT General Category: Candidates appeared in entrance test conducted by Manipal University will be considered for admission under this category. For detailed visit www.manipa.edu.

Reserved Categories

Sikkim: Candidates seeking admission through Sikkim category need to apply directly to the Director -Technical Education, Education Department, Government of Sikkim.

Defence: Wards of all Defence (serving/retired) services personnel are eligible to apply but preference will be given to wards of personnel posted in Sikkim. They should apply with the following:
  • Certificate from Commanding Officer indicating the place of posting.
  • Copy of transfer order to Sikkim, where applicable.
  • Discharge Certificates/Retired Identity card/Pension Pay Order for retired personnel.
North East: Domicile/Residence certificate from concerned district authorities is required to be submitted. DGHC:Sponsorship letter from Principal Secretary, DGHC is required, to be submitted. Paramilitary Force: Wards of all Paramilitary Force (serving/retired) personnel are eligible to apply but preference will be given to wards of personnel posted in Sikkim. They should apply with the following:
  • Certificate from Head of the Office indicating the place of posting.
  • Copy of transfer order to Sikkim, where applicable.
  • Discharge Certificates /Pension Order for retired personnel.
NRI: Candidates seeking admission under this categoryshould beForeign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries. Admission under this category will be given after screening conducted by SMU. If the candidate himself/herself is not an NRI, then he/she may be sponsored by his/her father, mother, brother, sister, uncle or aunt, grandparent who must be an NRI. Candidates qualifying from Foreign Universities are required to submit the equivalent grading/percentage of marks from AIU (Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi).Note:Candidates from Bhutan and Nepal can also appear in the entrance examination UGET2. If they get a rank in merit then the admission will be given under General category.

IMPORTANT NOTE
  1. In case the number of applicants for the seats in a reserved category is less than the seats earmarked for that particular category, the vacant seats will be added to the General Category.
  2. Candidates are required to retain a scratchcard & a photocopy of the application form with them.

Payment

Mode of Payment

  • The fee should be remitted by a demand draft in favour of “Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology” payable at Gangtok.
  • Parents who are unable to pay fees by DD can deposit their ward’s fee through cash by depositing the same in the bank through bank challan available with Finance Department.
Schedule of Payment of Fees Fee can be paid in lump sum amount which is one time every year and to be paid at the beginning of odd semester (1 Aug. to 31 August every year). However the institution offers the students the option of paying the fees in two easy installments per year i.e in the beginning of every semester during odd semester (01Aug. to 31 Aug) and for even semester (15 Jan. to 20 Feb). Final Year students do not have option of two installments (01 August to 31 August). Note: Delayed payment of fees will attract a modest fine of 0.5% p.m in the first month, 1% in the second and third month, and 2% for 3 months onwards.

Exam Pattern:
The test duration is of 2.30 hours and consists of 240 multiple choice questions (MCQ) of the objective type. The approximate distribution of questions is as follows:  Physics - 60 questions, Chemistry - 60 questions, Mathematics - 80 questions, English & General Aptitude - 40 questions.
